Job Responsibilities:
Purpose of Position
To perform cost accounting for the Wood County Highway Department’s machinery and maintain a variety of payroll, inventory and employee records.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

Process material requisitions, scale reports, recorded transfer spreadsheet, and monthly fuel reports and enter information into computer.
Audit and post monthly vouchers to proper accounts. 
Data entry of, and maintenance of accurate up-to-date information, which includes but not limited to:  invoicing, petty cash fund, Cost of Work estimates, preventative maintenance system for equipment, and accident reports.
Prepare and enter select journal entries as directed by the Accounting Supervisor.
Prepare construction project cost spreadsheets.
Act as the primary telephone receptionist for the Department.  Direct calls as needed.
Responsible to know and practice the Safety policies of the County.  Perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed manner.

Additional Tasks and Responsibilities

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.

Maintain machinery records, including cost data, and operating expenses.
Balance and recap transfers to the proper accounts.
Miscellaneous office duties, as needed, which include but not limited to type correspondence, file and transfer files, order office supplies, answer radio in a professional and courteous manner, etc.
Process various reports as part of year-end closing.
Issue moving permits for oversize and overweight loads using County highways.
Create winter and summer on-call schedules.
In absence of Accounting Supervisor, receipt in monies received and deposit with Wood County Treasurer, distribute mail, accounts payable as needed.
Prepare the state voucher information in the cost accounting software program.
Provide administrative assistance to department supervisors, as necessary.
Any other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Associate Degree in Accounting is required, as well as a minimum of three years of accounting experience.  Typing skills of 45 w.p.m. are required.  Ability to operate a computer and software (Excel and Word, required; will be operating cost accounting software), and to learn any upgrades and changes which may occur.  Knowledge of highway machinery is helpful.  This position may require travel to and from off-campus sites.  Possession of a valid driver’s license, as well as a licensed and insured automobile is required; or other means of reliable transportation immediately available to individual.
