Residential Aide - Full-Time
Location:WC Annex NW MSFLD
FT/PT:Full-time 40 hrs/week - WRS Eligible

Hiring Range:$13.58/hr to $15.51/hr
  
Job Responsibilities:
Normal hours are 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

*Responsible for the physical management of the Community-Based Residential Facility (CBRF) and assist the residents in meeting their needs.  Keep specific records on each resident and monitor self-administered medications.  Provide supportive and crisis stabilization services in person and via telephone; provide information on and make referrals to community resources; provide supporting documentation for all client/caller contacts; provide linkage and follow-up; assist in the development of on-going response plans and crisis plans as needed. Running group activities and structuring daily activities for residents.
*Complete admission process and evacuation assessment.  Complete Individualized Service Plan (ISP) for each resident; chart in resident files; and complete discharge/transfer process.  Document and report pertinent information to residents’ treatment team and/or Legal Services/Crisis Supervisor.  Other documentation as per assignment.
*Store, chart and monitor residents’ self-administered medications as per State Regulations.  Work with Medical Director or other designated medical staff in regards to residents’ physical examinations and medication needs.  Administer drug testing, as necessary. Refer for medical clearance as needed
*Teach and facilitate independent living skills to residents, (i.e., menu planning, shopping, and meal preparation; stocking supplies; doing laundry and other household chores).  Teach residents money management, communication skills, educational and vocational skills and how to interview for a job.  Interact with clients and families.
*Transport clients to appointments, meetings and social functions when staffing allows.  Monitor visiting hours.  Conduct fire drills.  Perform first aid, as required.  Perform housekeeping chores.  Perform daily house checks to maintain licensing requirements as well as ensure a safe environment for clients.  Other CBRF general/daily duties, as assigned.
*Responsible to know and practice the Safety policies of Wood County.  Perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed manner.

B. OTHER JOB DUTIES

*Be available and prepared to answer and respond to information/crisis telephone calls when scheduled.  
*Via telephone and in person, provide individuals with information on and make referrals to community resources; conduct supportive and crisis stabilization services; utilize appropriate de-escalation techniques and re-direction; provide case follow-up as necessary.
*Attend staff meetings, in-services, training, and conferences as required.
*Be familiar with and follow established department policies and procedures; shall be familiar with State and Federal Regulations pertaining to emergency mental health services and Community-Based Residential Facilities and other regulations as required.
*Maintain computerized client records, (i.e., telephone logs, Emergency Financial Assistance Program, data cards, etc.).  Must be able to type, edit, and search records and resource directory on computer.
*Any other duties as may be assigned.
Job Qualifications:
*High school diploma or the equivalent is required.  
*A bachelor’s degree is preferred.  
*Must be 18 years old.  
*A general knowledge base of mental health, alcohol and other drug abuse (AODA), and developmental disabilities, and the laws pertaining to these conditions required.  
*At least one year of experience in mental health, crisis, or other human services type settings is also preferred.  
*Basic, everyday living skills are needed, as is the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.  
*Reading, writing, adding, and subtracting is needed for completing resident forms, ordering supplies, monitoring medications, assessing reports, and documenting caller contact.  
*Must be able to assume responsibility and have acceptable management skills.  
*Ability to function calmly in potentially high risk (e.g. high suicide risk callers) situations.  
*Possession of a valid driver’s license, as well as a licensed and insured automobile are required.

A Residential Aide is required to complete a specific set of training's, some prior to assuming any job responsibilities (e.g., universal precautions, Medication Administration); other training's to be completed within 90 days after starting employment, e.g., fire safety, first aid and procedures to alleviate choking (Adult CPR may also be required); and the balance within six (6) months of starting employment, (e.g., client-related training (resident rights, recognizing and responding to challenging behaviors, dietary, etc.); and crisis stabilization/mental health specific training to give some examples.  This is not intended to be a complete list.

Prior to assisting with crisis intervention telephone responsibilities, must successfully complete departmental training in the areas of telephone counseling techniques, case assessment, resource identification, computer utilization, the ability to track calls, and Crisis Intervention policies and procedures, and demonstrate competencies in these areas.
