Job Responsibilities:

Wood County Annex and Health Center has an opening for a Psychiatrist position. As the Treatment Director of the inpatient psychiatric hospital unit, the psychiatrist is responsible for the psychiatric care and treatment of clients on this unit. In conjunction with the Director of Nursing (DON), oversees the services and treatment and will maintain and monitor that the unit is functioning within state and federal regulations and guidelines to make sure treatment is appropriate and necessary for the clients we serve. Open to hybrid models, such as 7-on-7-off schedule with multiple providers. May consider telehealth for the right candidate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.
1. Directs, supervises, and consults with professional staff in the implementation and development of the multidisciplinary treatment plans and care of clients under his/her care based on the patient’s individual needs.
2. Provides psychiatric consultation, evaluation and treatment as required.  Prescribes and monitors medications for the patient’s on the inpatient unit.  May consult on the long-term care unit as the consulting psychiatrist. 
3. Determines or makes recommendations for discharge disposition of clients and/or assists in the closing of cases on clients under his/her care in a timely manner.
4. Provides expert testimony in court cases, when required.
5. Assists in the development, evaluation and implementation of clinical programs.
6. Ensures provision of active treatment including alternative interventions.
7. Ensures provision of therapeutic groups as scheduled with assigned patients in attendance or alternative treatment provided.
8. Ensures provision of active treatment on evenings and weekends, including an equitable share of night and weekend on-call duty.  
9. Assumes overall responsibility for the care rendered to clients under his/her care.  
10. Will evaluate and accept voluntary admissions to the inpatient unit.  
11. Responsible for the safety of client care through the use of appropriate planning, implementation and evaluation procedures.
12. Maintains documentation as required and completes in a timely manner according to department policy and regulatory requirement.
13. Participates in utilization review for patients on the inpatient unit as needed.  

Additional tasks and responsibilities
1. Participates in the organization, meetings, and duties as required.
2. Maintains the confidential nature of client and business information.
3. As a member of the Medical Staff committee, participates in the oversight of ancillary staff, Locum Tenens, Psychiatric Residents, Nurse Practitioner (NP) and other ancillary providers that provide care on the inpatient unit.
4. Attends quarterly QAPI and Medical Staff meetings, Administrative meetings, care conferences and any other facility meetings as required or necessary.
5. Maintains, and works with Administration on, the fiscal responsibility of the inpatient unit.
6. Other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Education and Experience:

Physician licensed in State of Wisconsin, and must have Board Certification in Psychiatry
Must keep license current through continuing education as required and maintain a professional standing.

Licenses and Certifications:
Physician licensed in State of Wisconsin
Board certification in psychiatry
Licensed with Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of multi-disciplinary mental health treatment methods and the treatment of the mentally ill.
Knowledge of electronic medical records or ability to learn those skills.
Ability to evaluate, develop and implement plans in the care of clients.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff and the public; ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team, courts and a variety of referral sources.
Ability to supervise and direct multi-disciplinary professional staff in the implementation of client care and treatment.
Knowledge of the law as it is applicable to Mental Health care patients and patient rights as seen in chapter DHS 51, 55, 94, 61 and 75. 
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to work the required hours of the position.
