Parks Maintenance Worker
Full-time 40 hrs/week - WRS Eligible

This position will be assigned to all Parks including; Dexter, North Park and South Park, as needed.
Perform general building and grounds maintenance of Wood County Parks and Forestry Department facilities and recreational areas. Assist in the operations of outdoor recreation activities within these properties.
DIRECTS THE WORK OF
Assigned work crews.
Perform year-round routine, general maintenance functions of assigned facilities, and outdoor recreational areas. Transport necessary personnel and supplies as required. May include, but not limited to:
Light construction, maintenance and repair of buildings: including roofing, painting, insulation, plumbing, electrical repairs and other maintenance.
Repair picnic tables, playground equipment, grills, parking barriers, signs, pumps and other equipment.
Clean assigned facilities and recreational areas, including, but not limited to cleaning, deodorizing and disinfecting and refuse pickup, based on established standards.
Transport, operate and maintain a variety of heavy and light motorized equipment used in the maintenance of assigned facilities and outdoor recreational areas.
Perform various landscaping-related duties; including mowing grass, tree trimming or removal, planting trees, flowers and shrubs, vegetation control, snow plowing and removal, etc.
Inspect and regulate large dams, as assigned, and record information to properly maintain established lake levels.
Maintain multiple types of trails, used by a variety of user groups.
Assist in the operations of Powers Bluff Winter Recreation Area, as scheduled, for snow tubing, skiing, and multi-use trail operations.
Responsible to know and practice the Safety policies of the County. Perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed manner.
OTHER JOB DUTIES
Direct the work of assigned work crews.
Assist in forestry related work, as assigned.
Perform other duties as may be assigned.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS
One year certificate in Building and Grounds Maintenance, or related field, and at least two years related work experience; or five years related work experience in Building and Grounds Maintenance. Possession or ability to obtain within sixty (60) days, a Commercial Driver’s License with “Class A” and “Class B” endorsements is required. Basic knowledge of building maintenance (to include electrical and plumbing), landscaping procedures and equipment operations required. Certifications in basic First Aid and adult Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) useful, but will provide training. Must possess basic every day living skills; the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions (work assignments, safety rules); the ability to read and write (reading labels on cleaning supplies, estimates for work projects, mixing fuels), add and subtract (using a calculator). Forklift training will be obtained after hire.
Maintenance Workers assigned to the Dexter Park, or South Wood County Park work locations, must live within a 30 minute drive to their respective park’s dam house, or ability to relocate within three (3) months after successfully completing the introductory period.
Ability to use the following: calculator, telephone, two-way radio, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers; saws, sanders, chain saws, shovels and brooms. Ability to drive trucks and boats. Heavy construction equipment: earth-moving equipment, material handling equipment, mower, snowplow, tractor.
