Crisis Interventionists - Casual

Casual positions, hours and days vary.

Provide callers with information about and make referrals to community resources; provide supportive and crisis telephone counseling and follow-up; provide supporting documentation for all client/caller contacts; determine need for and request Mobile Crisis Responses, provide county Chapter 51 approvals to Law Enforcement. Also serve as access point to community for Adult Protective Services (APS), Guardianship, and Community Service Program referrals.

A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Primarily via telephone, provide information on community resources; conduct supportive and crisis counseling; refer clients to appropriate services, determine need for and request Mobile Crisis Responses, provide county approval Chapter 51 approvals, conduct case follow-up as needed. This duty requires strict adherence to rules of confidentiality.
2. Maintain computerized client records.
3. Create and update computerized community resource data; create and update computer information on ongoing clients.
4. Participate in consultation with other Human Services personnel and Medical Director to review client cases as needed.
5. Assist in initiating/completing other departmental projects or activities as assigned by Legal and Crisis Supervisor. For example: statistical reports, promoting crisis intervention (CI) through public speaking engagements, etc.
6. Attend monthly staff meetings.
7. Assist in training new staff.
8. Successfully complete all Community Based Residential Facilities (CBRF) training required under DHS 83.  Provide supervision to Crisis Stabilization, CBRF clients and assist with daily functions of Crisis Stabilization CBRF.  This includes assisting clients with daily living skills, general upkeep of the CBRF, monitoring and documenting progress, linkage and follow-up and other general tasks as assigned.
9. Provide back up for other Crisis Interventionists.
10. Responsible to know and practice the Safety policies of the County. Perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed manner.

B. OTHER DUTIES

1. Disseminate pertinent prevention materials to consumers on mental health, alcohol and other drug abuse, and developmental disabilities topics.
2. Other duties as may be required.

Job Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant human services field is required. One year of experience is preferred, working in a crisis intervention program or clinical setting. Position requires having or obtaining necessary trainings to meet CBRF and Emergency Mental Health requirements. This position requires that the candidate have strong communication skills, both oral and written (interviewing and counseling). A broad knowledge base of mental health, alcohol and other drug abuse, and developmental disabilities, and law pertaining to these conditions is very desirable. This position requires the ability to work independently under potentially high stress situations, (e.g., high suicide risk caller). Basic, everyday living skills are needed. Reading, adding, and subtracting is needed for assessing reports, documenting client contact on hospital charts (while doing outreach).

Basic office equipment used: copy machine, computer terminal and printing equipment telephone, telephone diverter, fax machine, scanner, calculator, related software/databases and other equipment as needed.
