Environmental Health Specialist/Assistant

Hiring Range:$44,241.60 to $60,132.80/annually
  
Job Responsibilities:
PLEASE NOTE: Wage will increase 7/1/21 to $44,803.20 to $67,288/annually.
Wage is dependent on which position is offered.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST:
 Promote individual and population health by providing essential services of public health within a variety of settings.  Responsibilities include a wide range of inspection services; identifying human health and environmental hazards; providing community education; ensuring compliance with a number state and local ordinances, codes, laws and policies; participating in multi-faceted health or environmental projects; and providing technical assistance and information to individuals, families, and groups regarding public health and environmental issues.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH ASSISTANT: Assist in the implementation of Environmental Health Programs and the enforcement of applicable Public Health laws and county ordinances.  The position promotes accepted principles of sanitation, and works to improve the quality and safety of the food supply, natural and built environment, the prevention of disease (through education, performance of specialized inspections, and investigations), and to preserve and improve human health, safety, and welfare.

Job Qualifications:
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST:  A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in environmental health, biology, microbiology, or related field.  Knowledge of the basic principles and practices of environmental health, especially as it applies to the sanitary activities of restaurants, hotels/motels, manufactured home communities, campgrounds, public swimming facilities, and other licensed establishments.  Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, and regulations.  Must be a Wisconsin Registered Sanitarian or National Registered Environmental Health Specialist.  Wisconsin valid motor vehicle operator’s license required and must provide own transportation.
Wage (Grade 8):  $47,715.20 - $54,516.80/Annually 

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH ASSISTANT:  Baccalaureate, or higher, Degree from an accredited college or university in environmental health, physical or biological sciences or related area. Knowledge of the basic principles and practices of environmental health, especially as it applies to the sanitary activities of restaurants, schools, retail food stores, hotels/motels, manufactured home communities, campgrounds, recreational educational camps, public swimming facilities, water attractions, swimming beaches, special events, and other licensed or inspected establishments. Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, and regulations.  Knowledge of public drinking water sampling and well inspections.  Must seek State of Wisconsin or national registration as a Sanitarian/Environmental Health Specialist after completing appropriate experience requirements, and become registered within three (3) years of hire. Possession of a valid driver’s license, as well as a licensed and insured automobile are required; or transportation immediately available to candidate. Basic everyday living skills are needed.  Must be able to communicate effectively in oral and written manner. Must be able to perform calculations and write accurate reports.
Wage (Grade 7):  $43,596.80 - $49,836.80/Annually

Basic office equipment used:  Computer terminal, laptop, tablet, printing equipment, calculator, telephone, copy/fax/scan machine.
