Education: A minimum of 60 college credits (Criminal Justice / Corrections degree preferred) or be presently Certified or Certifiable as a Corrections Officer in the State of Wisconsin. You must have or be able to successfully complete the Wisconsin Basic Jail Certification Academy.
Qualifications: 18 years of age or older, United States citizen, be of good reputation, no felony convictions, good health, pass pre-appointment investigation as well as pre-employment physical examination, Psychological examination and drug screening. Basic, everyday living skills are needed, as is the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. Reading, writing, adding, and subtracting is needed. The ability to speak clearly and precisely. A general understanding of computers is required. Must be able to assume responsibility and function calmly in emergency situations. Ability to interact with others is required. Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver’s license is necessary, and able to operate a motor vehicle.
Basic equipment used: Computer, calculator, copy machine, scanner, FAX machine, radio equipment, fire equipment, and monitoring/recording devices, cameras, video equipment, brooms, fingerprinting equipment, fire equipment, general medical equipment, breathing apparatus, eye protection, portable breath tester (PBT) and other law enforcement and corrections related equipment.
