CURRENT OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN OUR TEAM:
The Wood County Human Services Department, Family Services Division, has an opening for a newly created Social Work Supervisor position. This position will work primarily in the Marshfield Office and in partnership with the Ongoing Social Work Supervisor in the Wisconsin Rapids Office. This position is responsible for the oversight of the Family Services team that provides ongoing social work services in the area of Child Protective Services by, in part, engaging parents/caregivers through collaboration with services providers and other family focused efforts. The position will be a full-time (1.0 FTE) position. In some instances the position may provide back-up supervision for other teams within the Family Services Division and may be responsible for assisting with the intake and screening process. This position must ensure compliance with program objectives and applicable standards, mandates, rules, regulations, and statutory authority. The work is performed under the immediate direction of the Family Services Division Administrator with additional oversight. 

 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

-Supervises Bachelor and Master’s degree level certified Social Workers. Conducts supervisory conferences and provides social work consultation to supervisees. Supervises team personnel and approves subordinate actions. Assigns cases, tasks and projects based on client needs and worker knowledge and capabilities. Reviews cases, client records, and reports for progress and compliance with applicable laws, standards, rules and regulations. Motivates staff.
-Assists the Family Services Division Administrator’s operations, budgeting and general administration and assists in planning for change in procedures and new programs. Develops and monitors budget activity and Department contracts with vendors. Assists Family Services Division Administrator in determining staffing levels and other budget expenditures and priorities.
-Interviews and recommends hiring of team staff, disciplines, and recommends the discharge of employees. Completes annual performance reviews on each employee. Plans, coordinates, conducts and evaluates staff training. Approves vacation, sick leave, compensatory and flex time requests.
-Assesses and determines which ongoing cases are to be assigned to appropriate staff. Guides workers through the decision-making process related to assessing for safety. Approves decisions related to the permanency of children. 
-Assures that the Human Services Department is in compliance with all State and Federal rules, laws and standards as related to the work in Child Protective Services, Child Welfare, and Youth Justice.
-Directs and plans appropriate human services actions related to abuse/neglect, Juvenile Court, guardianship, and alternate care. This occurs in consultation with the Corporation Counsel, District Attorney, Judges, medical care providers, law enforcement, attorneys, Circuit Court, other counties, Wisconsin Department of Children and Families, and other community providers. 
-Oversees assigned program/programs including but not limited to Permanency Roundtables, Targeted Safety Support Funds, and Family Preservation Program. Prepares annual plans and regular reports, develops policies and procedures, interprets state and county mandated program changes, updates program manuals, and represents the program/programs to Department management and county officials.
-Prepares presentations and/or conducts other meetings as needed for Department staff, county government, civic groups, and as needed to develop education/advocacy policies/procedures.
-Assists with emergency planning activities such as registration, relocation and shelter for persons subjected to disasters.  Participates in on-call for emergencies as advised by Emergency Management Department.
-Initiates and oversees team data collections.  Interprets data and coordinates with the Fiscal Services Division Manager and Systems Department in the development of computer programs for service program analysis and on-going policy decisions.
-Investigates and responds to client and community complaints and inquiries.
-Maintains knowledge of current social worker theories, practices and standards; program goals and requirements; personnel supervision principles and policies.  Participates in continuing professional training.  Develops and maintains Department standards and ensures practice standards in compliance with state and federal laws, rules and regulations, and professional ethics.
-Coordinates programs with other agencies, community resources, and services to fulfill client needs.
-Responds to children and families in emergency situations and institute crisis interventions as needed (24 hours/day, 7 days/week).
-Supports the Mission, Vision and Value statements of the Department, and works toward stated goals.
-Provides services utilizing a trauma informed care approach. 

ADDITIONAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this classification and may also be performed by other unit members.

-Represents the Department and programs on local, regional and statewide committees with approval of the Family Services Division Administrator.
-Assists Human Services auditors and retrieves requested material and information.
 

 



 

 
Job Qualifications:
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Four years of experience in the Human Services field and certification as a Social Worker by the State of Wisconsin required. Master’s Degree in Social Work preferred. Education and experience may be considered in lieu of a Master’s Degree. This position may require travel to and from off-campus sites. Individual may use personal vehicle or other means of reliable transportation.
