Recreation Therapist Aide - Casual
Location:Edgewater Haven WR
FT/PT:Casual - up to 1,200 hrs/year

Hiring Range:$11.22/hr to $12.82/hr
Job Responsibilities:

-Assist with recreation therapy activities and events within nursing home residents’ interest for their physical, mental, social and psychological well being.
-Transport residents to and from activities.  Assist, encourage and motivate residents to participate in daily activity programs, both individual and in groups according to established calendar of events.
-Set up and take down equipment/supplies for activities.  Prepare food as required.
-Purchase activity supplies.
-Complete a variety of forms for dietary, birthdays, foods and activities.
-Deliver personal event calendars to residents.
-Maintain activity attendance records and charts progress.
-Monitor wander guard unit.
-Maintain aviary.
-Display seasonal decorations.
-Update resident photos and interest books.
-Plant flowers and weed flower beds, as needed.  Pick flowers when in bloom and arrange them in vases for residents’ enjoyment.
-Assist families with party planning.
-Conduct unplanned activities.
-Assist volunteers.
-Attend required meetings.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
-High school diploma or equivalent; prior responsible work experience preferably with geriatric persons.  
-Ability to perform data entry and retrieval of information in computer terminal required.  
-Thorough knowledge of recreational and entertainment activities.  
-Demonstrated ability to deal with the public in a professional and courteous manner.  
-Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.

Ability to classify, compute and tabulate data and information, following a prescribed plan requiring the exercise of some judgment. Ability to compare, count, differentiate, measure and sort information.  Ability to assemble, copy, record and transcribe data and information.

Ability to advise and provide interpretation to others how to apply policies, procedures and standards to specific situations.

Ability to utilize a wide variety of descriptive data and information, such as regulations, attendance records, calendars, lists, newsletters and activity books.

Ability to communicate with residents, residents’ families and Edgewater staff.

Mathematical Ability

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

Judgment and Situational Reasoning Ability

Ability to use functional reasoning and apply rational judgment in performing diversified work activities.

Ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against measurable criteria.  Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.

Physical Requirements

Ability to operate, maneuver and/or steer equipment and machinery requiring simple but continuous adjustments, such as bus, sewing machine, stove/microwave, popcorn machine, garden tools and common hand tools in a safe manner.

Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing moderately coordinated movements such as pressing, pumping and smoothing.  Ability to grasp and place objects.

Ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, sounds, tastes, odors and textures associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks.

Ability to exert moderate but not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, lifting, carrying, pushing (must be able to push a resident in a wheelchair (resident weighing up to 200 pounds) from 50-300 feet up to 100 times a shift when assisting with recreational activities) and pulling.

Environmental Adaptability

Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors such as toxic agents may cause discomfort and poses a limited risk of injury.
