Job Responsibilities:
Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to assist the Register of Deeds in receiving, recording and maintaining records and documents according to state statutes, and perform the duties of the Register of Deeds in his/her absence. The work is performed under the direction of the Register of Deeds.

Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.
-Reconciles daily transactions with department records.
-Performs customer service tasks. Assist in filing documents and researching records. 
-Prepares, delivers and sorts mail.
-Reviews indexes for errors and corrects errors.
-Answers telephone calls. Provides information to callers or refers to appropriate person or agency.
-Directs and tracks public searchers. 
-Maintains knowledge of duties and responsibilities of Register of Deeds office. Attends and participates in on-going training. 
-Provides exceptional customer service to all internal and external customers.

Examine, record, index, archive and maintain:
-All instruments authorized by law and return them as designated, collecting the appropriate recording and transfer fees in compliance with Wisconsin State Statutes.
-All certified survey maps, subdivision plats, condominium plats, county plats, cemetery plats and transportation project plats as required by Wisconsin State Statutes.
-Federal tax liens, real estate related Uniform Commercial Code documents, articles of incorporation and firm names.
-Military discharge papers and issue certified copies as requested by the veteran or veteran service office.
-Vital records (birth, death, marriage, and domestic partnership); issue certified copies as requested in compliance with Wisconsin State Statutes.
-Issue copies of recorded documents and other filed records upon request and collect required fees.
 
Job Qualifications:
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent. One to three years of experience, including reading and understanding legal descriptions, real estate and/or title work, and general office procedures and computers.

Classes in human relations/real estate law, business, public administration, land resources or related field or any combination of experience and training that would provide the basic knowledge, skills and abilities.
