To perform various mechanical and maintenance duties necessary to keep the facility and all equipment functional operating safely and in accordance with state and federal guidelines and established maintenance standards.
No supervisory responsibilities.
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Follow preventative maintenance schedules to keep building and machinery in working condition following the user guide manuals for machinery.
Inspect and test smoke detection and prevention equipment such as smoke alarms, fire alarms, smoke/fire dampers, fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems and related devices and equipment.
Assist in grounds maintenance tasks such as snow removal, lawn care, trimming bushes and trees, and other related tasks.
Assist maintaining building equipment such as heating and ventilation, air compressors, kitchen appliances, laundry equipment, plumbing systems, water heaters, water softeners, etc.
Paint and plaster floor tile and cement work, involving working from high ladders, working for long periods on ladders or on your knees.
Repair or refinish furniture.
Make minor electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs.
Run errands; handle all incoming and outgoing freight, lifting and moving heavy equipment, furniture, and vending machines.
Responsible to know and practice the Safety policies of the County. Perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed manner.
OTHER JOB DUTIES
Requisition supplies and equipment for use in department activities.
On call 24 hours a day.
Any other duties as may be assigned.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a high school graduate or equivalent, and a minimum of one year vocational/technical maintenance related training, plus a minimum of at least one year experience in maintenance work, electrical work, plumbing, mechanical repair, heating, and air conditioner. Knowledge of commonly accepted methods and practices related to electricity, building construction and plumbing. Demonstrated ability to perform routine maintenance and repair procedures related to electricity, building construction and plumbing. Skilled in use of equipment, machinery, tools and measuring devices related to electricity, building construction and plumbing. Basic, everyday living skills are needed, as is the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions (work assignments). Reading, writing, adding, and subtracting is needed. A valid Wisconsin Driver’s license is required. Must complete “OSHA 10 hour” or higher level of safety training within three (3) months of date of hire. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
Basic office machines used: Calculator, copy machine.
