Child Care/Volunteer Coordinator
Location:River Block Building - WR
FT/PT:Full-time 38.75hrs/week - WRS Eligible

Hiring Range:$20.96/hr to $23.96/hr
Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for the screening and certification of child care providers in Wood County; includes investigation of complaints and biennial re-certification.  Also responsible for the coordination of all activities relating to volunteer services provided by the Wood County Human Services Department.



1. Perform all duties related to child care certification for Wood County.  Specific duties include recruiting, interviewing, screening, counseling, and advising prospective child care providers.
a. Once the application information is gathered, determine if prospective applicant meets the certification qualifications. When applicants are denied certification, if they appeal must participate in the appeals of this decision.
b. Responsible for investigating and evaluating all complaints about child care providers and to de-certify as appropriate.
c. Complete the biennial re-certification process for all providers.  Review application, complete home inspection to ensure the home meets child care licensure requirements. 
d. Maintain all child care licensure records, including home inspections, complaints, violations, and improvement plans.
e. Organize, facilitate, and develop a Parenting education program. 

2. Coordinate all activities regarding recruitment, matching and utilization of volunteers for clients serviced by the Human Services Department.  Duties include, but not limited to:
a. Recruit, train and coordinate volunteers; review, on a regular basis with the volunteers their current assignment and provide ongoing support to encourage their continued volunteer efforts.
b. Establish and maintain cordial working relationships with local community groups.  The primary focus is recruitment of volunteers as well as guiding and facilitating organizational and community change to meet social needs.
c. Assist with recruitment of mentors/volunteers to provide services to Youth.
d. Establish and maintain working relations with the staff of the department and indicate how volunteers can be utilized in their area of responsibility.
e. Maintain adequate records of the Volunteer Service Program and prepare reports as required.
f. Coordinate special volunteer projects such as, Christmas and other holiday donations and year round donations.  Arrange for ongoing recognition of regular volunteers and persons who make donations.
g. Serve as backup person for scheduling and payment of the volunteer drivers utilized by the department’s clients.

3. Responsible to know and practice the Safety policies of the County.  Perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed manner. 


1. Serve as backup to Transportation Coordinator.  Duties include:
a. Perform intake function for service request received by telephone, mail or personal interview.  This includes assessment of the situation, completion of 
paperwork and dictation related to the request and to the making of referrals as necessary.
b. Receive Economic Support referrals that are directed to the section and transfer appropriately. 
c. Consult with Human Services Supervisors and other staff as required to ensure appropriate disposition of all requests.  This is especially important for all child abuse and neglect, adult protective service referrals or any other situation where the health and safety of an individual is at risk.

2. Participate in unit meetings and attend training/conferences as required. 

3. Any other duties as may be assigned.

Job Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in social work, social science, sociology, psychology or other human services related field.  Ability to perform simple data entry and retrieval of information in computer terminal required.  Basic everyday living skills, the ability to understand and follow directions (department manuals, etc.), and reading and writing (for reports) is necessary.  Ability to communicate orally and in writing with individuals and groups.  Knowledge and understanding of volunteerism.  This position may require travel to and from off-campus sites.  Individual may use personal vehicle or other means of reliable transportation. 

Skill in using common business office machines (i.e., telephone, computer terminal, dictation equipment) is useful.
